How to exchange USDT to pesos in Buenos Aires and avoid scams
Перевірено:
USDT is exchanged for pesos or cash dollars through a crypto exchange with withdrawal to an Argentine account, through the P2P section of an exchange, or at an exchange house that accepts USDT and pays out cash. The main risks are sending on the wrong network, fake "payment screenshots" and meeting strangers while carrying a large sum. The rate is on "Rates" in ArgHub, and exchange houses that take USDT are in the "Currency exchange" section. This is information, not investment advice.

- Crypto exchange / app registered in Argentina — An account with identity verification; to withdraw pesos, an Argentine account (CBU/CVU). The provider's registration with the CNV, withdrawal fee.
- P2P section of an exchange — An exchange account; a peso account or wallet. The counterparty's rating, escrow terms.
- Exchange house (office or courier) — A wallet with USDT. The transfer network, the final amount, the settlement order. Without an Argentine account the first two options are inconvenient: pesos are withdrawn to an account. That is why visitors more often go to an exchange house that pays out cash pesos or dollars.
How do I check that a crypto service is legal?
Since 2024, virtual asset service providers (PSAV) in Argentina must register with the National Securities Commission (CNV): this is Law 27.739 and CNV General Resolution 1058/2025. The PSAV register is public: cnv.gov.ar → Registros Públicos → PSAV; you can search by name ("Apellido o razón social") and by CUIT. A registered provider must show its CNV registration number on its website or in its app. Registration is not a guarantee of a good rate, but absence from the register is a reason to be wary. By law a PSAV is anyone who, as a business, exchanges crypto assets for ordinary money for others (art. 4 bis of Law 25.246), so an exchange house that regularly takes USDT and pays out cash also fits this definition. The exception under CNV RG 1058/2025 is individuals with a turnover of up to 35,000 UVA a month: they may not be in the register. If the exchange house is not in the register, judge it by its track record, its office and its reviews.
How to avoid mistakes with the USDT transfer
- Network. USDT exists on different networks (TRON/TRC-20, Ethereum/ERC-20, etc.). The address and the network must match what the recipient gave you. A transfer on another network is usually lost.
- Address. Copy it, don't retype it; compare the first and last characters. Malware can swap the address in your clipboard.
- Test amount. For a first deal, send a small amount and wait for confirmation.
- A transfer can't be undone. On the blockchain there is no "payment recall" like at a bank.
Common scams when exchanging USDT for pesos
- The "payment screenshot". The buyer of your USDT shows you an image of a bank transfer, but the money is not in the account. Check for the money in your own bank, not on the screen of someone else's phone.
- Prepayment to a stranger. They ask you to send the USDT first and say "a courier will bring the cash". The courier never comes.
- A rate that is too good. A rate clearly better than the market is a typical lure. Compare with "Rates" in ArgHub.
- A meeting with cash. A large sum of cash on the street means a risk of robbery and of counterfeit bills (how to check bills: "How to spot counterfeit dollars and pesos in Argentina").
- "Exchange support" on a messenger. Real support does not ask for your seed phrase, your password or a transfer to a "safe wallet".
- Stolen money in P2P. You are paid in pesos from someone else's account, then the bank freezes your account after a complaint. Accept payment only from an account in your counterparty's name.
Where to find an exchange house that takes USDT
the "Currency exchange" section has cards for exchange houses with their terms. For example, Union Exchange lists USDT ↔ USD and USDT → pesos exchange, a courier in CABA and an office at Av. Corrientes 3339 (its page). ArgHub does not carry out exchanges and is not a party to the deal: you agree the terms directly, so check them before you meet.
Taxes when exchanging USDT for pesos
according to ARCA, income from selling crypto assets is subject to income tax (impuesto a las ganancias); for resident individuals, the procedure and the rate depend on the source of the income and the currency of the transaction. Whether this applies to you and how to declare it, ask an accountant (contador). This is information, not advice.
