Renting a car at Buenos Aires airport: Ezeiza and Aeroparque
Checked:
You can pick up a rental car at both Buenos Aires airports: Ezeiza (Ministro Pistarini) and Aeroparque Jorge Newbery. Some companies hand over the car at a desk in the terminal, others bring it to the exit. For example, RS AVTO (arghub.app/rs-avto?lang=en) brings the car to Aeroparque for US$50, to Ezeiza for US$100 and anywhere in the city (CABA) free of charge. It is one option among many: compare conditions, not only the price.
How does airport rental car pick-up work?
When you book, you give the airport, your flight number and arrival time, and the agent tells you where they will meet you. If your flight is delayed, let the company know: it is easier to move the time than to lose the booking. Before you fly, find out how to reach them by phone or messenger as soon as you land, since your local SIM may not work yet.
What documents do they ask for at rental car hand-over?
Your passport and a valid driving licence. A foreign licence is generally recognised for up to 1 year from your date of entry (argentina.gob.ar); at RS AVTO, Russian citizens may drive in their first 3 months as tourists. RS AVTO does not require an International Driving Permit. The car papers and proof of insurance must be in the car: police can ask for them (Ley 24.449, art. 40).
What should you check on the spot when picking up a rental car?
- Walk around the car and photograph the body, the interior and the dashboard (mileage and fuel).
- Check the fuel against the contract: at RS AVTO the car is handed over with a full tank and returned full.
- Ask about the deposit amount and how to pay it: at RS AVTO it is from US$500 (depending on the car) in cash or by card, and a credit card is not required.
- Ask about the mileage limit: at RS AVTO it is 300 km per day, added up over the whole rental, with US$0.33 per extra km.
- Ask how tolls are paid and whom to call if the car breaks down.
Tolls from the airport
From Ezeiza you reach the city on the Autopista Riccheri, run by the concessionaire Corresur, whose site lists TelePASE as a way to pay. AUSA has removed cash booths from the City motorways: payment is electronic only and TelePASE is required (ausa.com.ar). RS AVTO cars have a toll transponder, and the customer pays tolls separately. If your car has none, ask the company how to pay for the tolls.
Your first drive from the airport. After a long flight it pays not to rush: start the navigation before you leave the car park, choose the route in advance, adjust the mirrors and seat on the spot and do not stop in a traffic lane. The priority rules in the city are in the article on driving in Buenos Aires.
Returning the car at the airport. Agree in advance where and when you will hand it back and leave time for the inspection and photos. Return the fuel as the contract says; fines and tolls are checked after the return. ArgHub is a listings platform, not a party to the rental contract: confirm the terms with the rental company before you pay.
